How it started
Roller Haus started with a simple question. In 2024, Lynn asked a local community Facebook group if there was anywhere in Cold Lake to roller skate indoors during the winter. There wasn’t really an answer, so she decided to create one.
The First Skates
Not long after the idea for Roller Haus started taking shape, Lynn visited Rollers in Edmonton and connected with the owner, Claudia. Lynn later spoke with her by phone to ask questions about starting a roller skating business and what it would take to make it work.
A few months later, Claudia reached out with an unexpected lead. The owner of Architectural Clearing House in Edmonton had a large collection of old roller skates that had been sitting in storage for years and was looking to find them a new home. She connected him with Lynn, and that introduction became the beginning of Roller Haus’ first rental inventory. A U Haul was rented, the skates were brought back to Cold Lake, and before long the garage was overflowing with skates, wheels and parts.
Bringing Them Back to Life
Getting the skates was only the beginning. Lynn and her friends, including members of the Lakeland Ladykillers, spent countless hours going through them one by one, cleaning, repairing, replacing bearings and rebuilding anything that needed attention.
Together, they turned a garage full of well-used skates into a working rental fleet ready for Roller Haus’s first event.
The First Event
After weeks of cleaning, repairing and rebuilding skates, Roller Haus was finally ready to open the doors. The first public skate brought the refurbished rental fleet out of the garage and onto the racks, giving Cold Lake its first taste of what Roller Haus could become. The skates were old, mismatched and full of history, but they did exactly what they needed to do: they got people rolling.
How Far We’ve Rolled
What started with a simple question about where to roller skate indoors has grown into themed skate nights, a much larger rental inventory and a community that keeps showing up to roll together.
Today, Roller Haus continues to grow with every event, bringing music, movement, nostalgia and good times on wheels to our community.
